ARCAL™ Welding Gas

Simply the right choice of shielding gas solutions.

Advanced Fabrication Center at Innovation

While generic, industry standard gases might seem adequate, Air Liquide's ARCAL™ range is designed to transcend these ordinary offerings, providing a superior Argon solution that aligns with your need for excellence.

ARCAL™ offers four ready-to-weld Argon mixtures designed to be reliable, simple, and high-performing for practically any gas welding needs.

If you are looking for the best shielding gas in MIG, MAG or TIG welding, our ARCAL™ gas range is specifically formulated to produce low oxidation, spatter, and fumes for stainless steel and other materials. The excellent arc striking and wetting properties of Argon cylinder give a smooth bead profile, making it ideal for pulsed welding.

The entire range complies with American Welding Society (AWS) A5.32 and ISO 14175 welding standards.

Frequently Asked Questions About Gas Welding

Where can I buy Air Liquide welding gas?

You can purchase our welding gases directly through Air Liquide Australia or pick up from one of your local Air Liquide Agents or ALbee Resellers. Simply use our online Agent Finder to locate your nearest stockist. To enquire about setting up an account fill out our Contact Us form and our friendly staff will be in touch.

What are the main types of gases used for welding?

The gases used for welding are often referred to as shielding gases. They include inert gases such as Argon and Helium, semi-inert gases like Nitrogen, reducing gases such as Hydrogen (H2), and active gases like Oxygen (O2) and Carbon Dioxide (CO2). A small percentage of H2, O2, and N2 can be added to Argon to produce the desired weld quality.

Does Air Liquide offer gas cylinder rental, or can I purchase my own cylinders?

Yes, at Air Liquide we offer both a cylinder rental and purchase options

  • For industrial or high-volume use, rental or exchange cylinder programs are available through our packaged gas and industrial gas supply modes. Contact us today to receive a quote.

  • For long-term operations or mobile use, the ALbee™ rent‑free cylinder range allows customers to buy the bottle outright, eliminating rental fees. Only gas refills are charged when swapping out after initial purchase.

What is the best MIG welding gas for stainless steel?

Our recommended shielding gas for MIG welding stainless steel with solid wire is ARCAL™ Chrome (2% CO2 with balance Argon). Having 2% CO2 in Argon stabilises the arc, provides good wetting action and thereby results in a quality weld.

Which gas cylinder top should I choose? Are they really better than the standard ones?

Air Liquide offers a range of advanced cylinder valve technologies that provide greater safety, convenience and efficiency compared to standard valve setups. The ARCAL™ range comes in SMARTOP™, EXELTOP™ or ALTOP™.

SMARTOP™

Ideal for general-purpose users who want to save time and gas and improve workplace safety, compared to a standard valve.

Features include: on/off lever, ergonomic cap for easy handling, contents gauge, prevents back-flow contamination

EXELTOP™ or ALTOP™

Our premium cylinder technologies — EXELTOP™, and ALTOP™ — are integrated valves with features like built-in regulators, content gauges, and quick‑connect for hoses that reduce down time, improve safety, ease of use, and portability.

These are superior to conventional cylinder tops because they reduce setup time, regulator-free option, minimise leak risk, and are ergonomically designed for field work.

Can I place orders online?

Yes, you can order through our online customer portal myGAS. On myGAS you can also get access to all of your invoices, view dockets and pay invoices. If this is something that interests you, you can create your account to Air Liquide’s online MyGas portal via this link.
